Aston Mahana at Kaanapali is a tranquil tropical retreat that takes full advantage of its beautiful Northern Kaanapali Beach setting. Guests rave about the beautiful landscaping and decor, but it’s the ocean that is truly the star of the show. Every suite boasts floor-to-ceiling oceanfront views that make you feel as if you’re floating above the Pacific. Each unit includes a full kitchen, washer, and dryer unit, and breezy balconies. Enjoy all the comforts of home, with breathtaking views of Lanai and Molokai as an added bonus.
We rented condo #718 and loved it! Outstanding and amazing views every day all day long! Right at the beginning of the beautiful beach walk that goes all the way to Black Rock! The condo was so nice! Comfortable bed, kitchen well stocked, comfortable furniture, great outdoor veranda overlooking the water. Barbecue grills very nice. The pool is a bit limited and small but always clean and neat. It was an easy drive to Napili and Lahaina and to many lovely beaches! A perfect location to enjoy all of Maui.
Nice quiet location while still on Kaanapali Beach
(Kansas City, Missouri)
We liked the smaller, quieter location of the Aston Mahana, while still on Kaanapali Beach. We didn't have the large resort-type hassles of trying to find chairs by the pool, etc. and the beach was very close by.
Beautiful Ocean Front Condo
I come to the Mahana once a year, each time I regret not staying longer. The views from the balcony are un-believable., with whales jumping and breaching just off shore.
sunsets are a must see right on the property.
Walk to Dukes next door for happy hours and music, food pretty good too.
Great Views for a Reasonable Pice
(Westlake Village, California)
We just finished a last minute "get away" to Maui and found the Aston Mahana. While lacking resort amenities, the property features all ocean front rooms. We booked a one bedroom and were not disappointed. The room was spacious with a full kitchen, air conditioning, washer and dryer, a walk in closet and comfortable bed. Unlike other condo rentals, this one did have daily maid service.
We were on the 10th floor which was actually higher than we would have liked as you did not get views of the greenery and sand. Saying that the views of the ocean were wonderful. We were even treated to a spectacular rainbow one morning.
Since this is primarily a condo project, there are few resort amenities. The pool and spa were adequate. While there is a beach, you cannot access the ocean from the property. That was the one downside to our visit as we enjoy snorkeling and being in the surf. The staff was very helpful and their morning orientation of sites on Maui is actually worth going to. We have been to Maui numerous times and still learned of some areas we had never visited.
There is strip mall in walking distance with a full super market and fantastic breakfast place called "Slappy Cakes" where you can make your own pancakes at your table. Great for families. One piece of advice, if you plan to walk over to the supermarket, bring you own shopping bag with a handle. The market's bags don't have handles which make carrying your purchases the several blocks back to the hotel a bit of a challenge.
all rooms face the water; most hotels don't offer that
we had stayed here before quite a few years ago and liked it because of free and shaded parking, terrific and private lanai's, outstanding unobstructed views of Molokai and Lanai. You couldn't be closer to the edge of the water if you tried. This time we had brought a friend and rented a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit on the top floor with an immense lanai.
The interior wasn't 5 stars, however, it had everything we needed and we enjoyed excellent service. The hairdryer went kaput, we needed a kettle, etc. and they came right up to get us what we asked for. Can't say that I liked the carpet in the living room and bedroom but it was a spacious unit that included a washer/dryer and even a bidet in the bathroom. The kitchen was relatively well equipped although the toaster needed to be replaced, especially since it had only 2 slots and was very slow. Whenever they renovate they should raise the bathroom sink counters and consider having a large sink with 2 faucets. The crashing of the waves drowns out most people noises which is pretty awesome. While we were there for 10 days it was very hot and not possible to enjoy the lanai except early in the morning and during sunset. There is no light on the lanai. The foyer has really no air conditioning and it gets hot.
You get a variety of coupons and a code to get you through a gate that allows you to enter the tremendous board walk that you can enjoy all the way to the Sheraton and beyond. There a mostly mangroves between the walk way and beach with the occasional opening to the beach. Take your pick where you prefer to be. This walk allows you access to all the hotel restaurants along Kaanapali Beach, etc. - Dukes happened to be the closest one to our condo. A little walk takes you across the street to a small shopping mall where you can buy your groceries, etc. Don't bother shopping around for lower prices. All charge about the same and the prices are high - probably much higher than what you're used to.
The 2nd bedroom faced east and did not have a water view and was notoriously too hot even with the A/C and fan running. We discovered that the windows could not be opened because the crank handles were removed (how can that be legal?) to allow room for the sliding shutters. Beyond that we were surprised that towels (very good quality) and the bedding were being exchanged daily. Even most hotels don't do that and as an environmentalist I would have preferred to have a choice. The pool area is kind of small but since I don't go into the water anyway it didn't matter to me .. or us.
However, all in all we are in agreement that we would stay here again.
The Hawaiian word Mahana means ‘twins' and was chosen to represent the two “twin” towers that make up our property. Together with stunning views of Molokai and Lanai (the two islands that can be seen from our resort) Mahana is a special name for our place in paradise.
