Set along Kona's notorious black lava shoreline, Aston Kona by the Sea opens up to stunning views of the Pacific, creating the backdrop for a dream Hawaiian Vacation. In a popular location for snorkeling and surfing, this condominium resort is within ideal proximity to must-do Kona activities, while still offering a serene retreat with its tropical landscaping and sandy lounge area beneath breezy coconut trees. Additional on-site amenities include a saltwater pool, jet spa, barbecues, WiFi internet access, and meeting room/reception space available to rent.
We have always enjoyed staying with Aston. This was our third trip to the Kona property. We love the privacy and view. Only issue with this stay was we were NOT given an oceanfront room which we reserved. Instead, we were given a tired room with only partial view. The hotel tried to correct most of our issues, however we believe we should have been refunded some of our cost since we had to stay in a cheaper room.
We loved The Aston Kona by the Sea. We had a very spacious, clean room with a great view of the sunsets. We could leave our sliding glass doors open to hear the waves crashing all night long. We also felt very safe there as the security was walking around night and day. Very conveniently located just south of Kona with some great beaches to the south of the Hotel. We did move on to the Mauna Lani Resort later in the week and liked our Aston Room much better.
First time in Kona
(SF Bay Area)
Had a fun week in Kona and was pleased with our accommodations at Aston KBS. The oceanfront location and sunset views were wonderful. The warm swimming pool & hot tub were greatly appreciated and enjoyed after a day of exploring. The resort is peaceful and the rooms are quiet. Get a 2-bed unit if you want the master near the lanai. The 1-bed unit has master near outside hallway so no view of ocean. Loved listening to the waves break on rocks at night. Highly recommend LaBourgogne, delicious French restaurant. ‘Da Best’ Mai Tai at Jackie Ray’s and sunset view at Don’s Mai Tai bar (the fish tacos are yummy too).
unit in poor condition
We were assigned Unit 208 at Kona by the Sea. The unit was dilapidated and unkempt. The carpet was stained and needs replacement. The walls had peeling and stained paint. The door to washer/dryer was falling off. The sliding screen door is rusted and does not stay on the rails. The property itself is well kept and lovely but this unit is not. The location is ocean front and it is relaxing to listen to the waves on the lanai. Since the units are individually owned, the quality of the units can vary greatly it seems. I guess we were unlucky this time. I do not think this unit should be rented out until it meets a higher standard. I suggest that the units be inspected annually by the management team.
Amazing location unit 106 was awesome!
It was a wonderful unit and the location is great. Unit 106 was perfect. Listening to the sound of the ocean and watching the sunsets from the lanai were great. This unit had all of the beach extras which was really great.the picture was taken from the unit. Thanks again for a great stay.
The property’s original owner built a giant saltwater pool out in the bay. You can access it directly from the shore and once you’re in you can gaze out to the sea beyond.
In the Hawaiian language, the word kona means leeward - the dry side of an island. A fitting name for the disctrict of Kona which is the drier sunny side of Hawaii Island, in comparisson to the wetter Hilo district on the east side of the island.
