Even if this hotel is not 5 star, is good for a short stay, with a good location, just a few steps from the beach, and friendly attention from employees. The service on the rooms is good and friendly. Average hotel.
Excellent service!

The room and service was excellent! The location was perfect for our staycation. There are many eateries nearby. The coin laundry was convenient. The staff were courteous and friendly. Thank you very much!
This hotel is very affordable !

The staff was friendly and accommodating. The price is absolutely right. The upgrades are good, too. I'm not sure when the hotel was last refurbished, but I love what the hotel looks like now ! I came for a peaceful and rejuvenating stay, and that is exactly what I got at Ewa Hotel this year. Thank you Ewa Hotel !

Good for quanatee. Due the virus was a lot of restriction so, couldn't rate the ammity. Overall stay for the 10 days was good. We're able to delivery food and personal items to family member. Evan and the front desk clerks was very helpful and patient.
Older hotel, over priced, amazing staff

The hotel was decent And it’s definitely a “stayable” hotel, but it is an older hotel the lobby looks renovated but, you can really tell it’s old once u enter the elevator hallways and rooms. The amenities, carpet and kitchenette are old. The hotel is overpriced in my opinion but I guess because of its prime location they feel like they can charge resort prices & there is no pool. They ask for a $200 deposit Which I thought was excessive for the quality. The staff was the best thing about the hotel really friendly and super helpful. I checked into my room easily. Only had one hiccup after settling into the room I went to shower and open the curtain and the shower was leaking and the tub was clogged and full of water & backup debris after calling the front desk they moved me to a new room. I will mention that I got a kamaaina (hawaii resident) deal so it costed less for me and I didn’t have to pay amenities fee and that was great this and the staff is the reason for the 3rd star otherwise I’d give it 2 stars.
We arrived early so we had to wait until 4p for check in, but I was able to get a key card early so the kids could go to the pool. The property is shaped kind of like a Z, so if you end up farther down its a very long walk to the pool. Some units are owned by different owners rented out so I think that is where some of the bad reviews come in. The rooms could be cleaned better, so i went through with clorox wipes and did some more wiping down but the unit was in good shape and good size with the bedrooms upstairs. You definitely want to Bring your own pool towels, laundry soap, garbage bags, and extra kitchen supplies as its not provided. We had 4 towels for 6 people and no pool towels were ever stocked and the local Walmart was out of towels, paper products, balls and much more so i was happy i came prepared. There is a Publix nearby that had plenty of groceries. Overall i would stay here again, just expect lots of traffic to DISNEY and Universal so a 15 minute ride ends up taking 40.

We stayed at Fountain's Resort in early march before the Covid-19 nightmare. The staff were kind an courteous and the place was well kept. 3 adults and 3 kids in a 3 bedroom townhouse.
Cons:
-The sofa in our unit looked like a kid was left alone with a knife, cant really blame that on the resort but it wasn't great to come into a damaged couch.
-The prices for activities were actually more expensive at the resort than at the attraction itself.
-There is no real playground for kids
Pros:
Amazing and responsive staff
Updated dishwasher, washer, dryer, fridge and stove
very close to retail and food
great for walks and photo ops
Kids loved the pools
Summary: I would definitely go back, maybe request a house that is stationed around the waterfall. Good price for a family on a budget.
House was clean and bright.

We stayed here after a week in myrtle beach and oh my goodness! This place is amazing! Jessica at the front desk was smiling and welcoming as soon as we walked in. We had a beautiful room with so much to do on property! i wish we would have stayed here the full 2 weeks!

Recent stay at Fountains was enjoyable. Check In was easy. Good location, nice property with a heated pool and hot tub. $21.57 a day for a resort fee is very steep considering the pool area is all they offer on site.
Large 4 bedroom townhouse was very nice. Cleanliness of dining and living room carpets were the biggest negative for us. No way it was vacuumed prior to our arrival. Leftover food and long blonde hairs all over the carpets. Exterior of stainless steel appliances should have been cleaned. Bathrooms and bedrooms were all cleaned satisfactory. My wife vacuumed the dining and living room carpets. We could not find the remote for the provided DVD player. We requested a replacement at the front desk, but one was never delivered. Outside of the initial dirtiness of the carpets, our stay was very enjoyable. We would probably return next year
4 night golf getaway

We made plans to go to Orlando for a golf getaway. Great location within minutes to champions gate. Easy to make plans and head down from Connecticut. We arrived early to see where we were staying. Front desk clerk had our cell phone and would call us when room ready. A 4 PM check-in turned out to be 8:30 PM due to a very dirty condo left by previous renters. The kitchen floor and entry way were filthy along with the carpet to the upstairs. The handle was torn off a kitchen cabinet door. There was a nail tak in the bedroom closet sticking out. There were only six towels for 4 adults for 4 nights. There were no plastic trash bags to put your garbage out. We still enjoyed our stay. This unit could use some attention in the near future.
Traveling to Hawaii may seem daunting but was not that bad despite the hoops you have to jump through to get in. Another nice stay at the Aston Whaler. Unfortunately they could not accommodate us for the entire stay in one room and we had to move mid vacation. Room 952 was amazing! Ocean front and spectacular views from the wrap-around balcony. Room was well appointed and updated. We had to move mid trip to 1052. While the balcony and room views were amazing, the room itself needed some repair and updating. Coffee maker was broke and the TV stopped working among other small issues (well the final 4 was one so that might be a big issue). The staff was very quick to respond and fixed as necessary. The move itself was less than desirable as it left us without our things and no place to go for about 5 hours. A bit of an inconvenience for sure. If they knew the change had to be made, planning a direct move would have eased the disruption to our vacation. I have rated this place 5 stars before, but not on this trip.
Beautiful Location
Binny04
This is a beautiful location on Kaanapali Beach. We arrived a little after the 4PM check-in and walked right to the front and were in our place quickly. A wonderful bellman took all of our luggage and Costco items to our room. We were given studio room 1116 with a garden view and what a view we had, I would have called it an ocean view. The room was very nice with no issues at all. Due to Covid we did not have daily cleaning service, but all amenities and towels were brought to you upon request. We played tennis on their wonderful courts and the gym was just what we needed. We can’t wait to come back to

We just got back from a week at the Aston at the Whaler and loved it. The resort provided everything we needed for a great Hawaiian vacation. Our room was clean and updated. We had a studio ocean view condo. We really enjoyed having breakfast and coffee on our balcony each day overlooking the ocean. One great feature about the property is that it is not too large and very manageable to navigate. You can get from your room to the beach in under 5 minutes. Some of the other resorts in Maui are so large and confusing to navigate. Additionally, the resort is located on one of the best parts of Kaanapali Beach. If you are looking for a laid back trip, clean affordable room, the Aston at the Whaler is a great choice.
Family Vacation

We just stayed there for a family vacation and our rating are not inflated. They reflect exactly what we experienced. Highly recommend this property and their staff. If we come back to Maui we will book here again. Mahalo!
We checked in today at 4pm to find out they gave our whirlpool room away for some unknown reason (the lady had a bunch excuses that made no sense).
Then after seeing the place we find out the rooms were not properly cleaned. The dishes in the cabinets were dirty and all had to be washed before we used them. The table had to be rewashed since there were dirty finger prints all over it. There is a thick layer of dust on the lamps, along the mop boards, and on other decor including fake plants. We paid for 2 adults and 5 children and got literally 4 towels for all of us and each of the two bathroom had only one roll of TP. One more thing is the vanity in the so called master bedroom is falling off the wall and broken. This is probably one of the worst “resorts” I have ever been too. I was trying to justify that maybe the standard is higher in WI. Are all the Resorts in FL this bad? I will post pictures later.
The worst place ever dont stay in this place its not worth it and it doesnt look nothing like the pictures it advertises

Let me just start by saying that my room was still not ready at check in time when i finally got my room it was disgusting it was not properly cleaned mattress were stained and broken this is outdated.

Checked in and checked right now. Upkeep of room was not to me and my families standards. We were all very disgusted. Molding on floor was broken, couch was very dingy and dirty, and food was still in garbage disposal upon other things I’m sure I would have found if we had stayed. Very poor upkeep of room.
Cleanliness issues!!
Travelmom1989
I booked this place last minute on booking.com after deciding to extend our time by a few days in Orlando. The options were slim pickings but after watching some YouTube reviews and such we decided to do it. My family and I checked in on a Saturday for 2 nights. I called 2 hours prior to the 4pm check in to see if the room was ready as they offer early check in if available. I was informed the room had been ready for quite sometime now and we could head over and get checked in immediately. Upon our arrival everything seemed great. It was clean and nice looking, the lobby was nice as was the gated community feature. After unloading our items we started seeing red flags before even getting to the room. The elevator up to the room was in poor condition. The appearance of the doors to the different units were worn down and beat up looking. Upon entry into room I was not impressed. We scooped out the rooms and bathrooms and immediately started seeing issues. In the main shared bathroom the tub had what I thought was chips in the bottom of it and turned out to be large pieces of dirt. There were also NO towels. In the main bed bedroom the safe would not lock. The issues only got bigger from there. The living room furniture had crusted food smears on it, several low areas on the walls had bright orange maybe Cheeto smears from a small child with maybe Cheeto fingers. The giant mirror hanging in the entry way had hot Cheeto or taki smeared all over it. Absolutely disgusting!!! I am a mom of 3 I get it kids eat they get yucky and touch stuff BUT also as a former housekeeper who has spent years working in a hotel this was unacceptable. In the kitchen the cabinets had really old spills running down them including some gooeyiness running down the front of the dishwasher. I immediately called the front desk and gave them a list of issues with the cleanliness and they apologized and said someone would come fix it all. I advised we were going to the pool area for a few hours and would be back. The nice girl on the phone assured me it would be taken care of. My family changed into swim suits and headed to the pool. Upon arriving at the pool it was nice set up. However the type of people that were mainly there were not the type I would prefer to have my kids around. It was a rather “rough crowd” I am an African American/Hispanic woman and the people that were at that pool were animals. It was very unappealing, however we kept to ourselves found an empty corner in the pool and made the best of it. At the end of our pool time my husband who used to be a life guard years back had to pull a baby out of the water not even 2 yrs old from the pool near where he was standing because the parents just were not watching and she did not come back up after jumping in. After he grabbed her out and looked around for her parents he gave the baby back to them and instead of making sure she was ok the mother starts yelling at the dad that he was suppose to watch her and they continued swimming. As much water as that poor baby took on she needed to be examined by a Dr. after this we had enough and returned to our room expecting to have everything recleaned. It was NOT!! No one had been there after 2hrs. At that time we also noticed that our room had a lock box on the outside of it and no one else’s doors had this, this struck me as odd. I called back down to the front desk and the girl put me on hold then came back after a minute or 2 and stated she spoke to the head of housekeeping and the man who was assigned our room to rectify the issues was still not done cleaning other units that were check outs. I advised her that we were here already so whoever needed to stop what they were doing and fix our unit then return to whatever else. She apologized and promised they would get it taken care of, at that time my kids had also noticed that the door handles to the different rooms had crusted matter on them as well. I became irate and asked the girl for a different room entirely. She placed me on hold again and came back on to inform me she didn’t have anything. I then proceed to advise her we would not being staying between the crowd that was there and the filth of the room. I asked her for a full refund. I told her we hadn’t messed up anything Bc everyone was too disgusted to sit anywhere or touch anything other then the dining room table. She stated she would give me a full refund. We gathered our belongings and repacked our car. Upon my arrival back to the lobby she gave me a receipt that showed the refund and it was credited back to my account 2 days later which is the only positive to this place. My family and I gladly left and found another fabulous places called Omni resort in Champions Gate. I’m glad to report when we return to FL as we do every year we will be using this as our place to stay. TOP of the line resort!! Please beware if your accustomed to a higher standard of where you stay then this is not the place for you. Attached are a few photos we took some of the other issues are in a video we took that I was unable to post.
Great value for what you get
ralvey05
For the price, the place is pretty great. It was much less expensive than many hotels we found, plus we had separate bedrooms. It has its own theater and pool, though we weren't able to use either since we were so busy. The only thing that threw us off was the gate. We couldn't figure out how to open the gate to get in, but at checkout we found the area you are supposed to swipe your key card to open the gate. We assumed it would be right by the gate, but it is actually by the clubhouse.
didnt believe i had made a proper reservation through the airport. showed them a negative covid test and travel qr. where Lance my front desk attendant then went and spoke with his manager for a long time.

Buyer beware hotel is really old, rooms are outdated and paint is peeling. Staff was decent but really didn’t help with things to do. The hotel restaurant is closed due to Covid-19 The pool also has weird “COVID” hours it closes at 3 which is the hottest point of the day.

The palm trees fit the look of the hotel. But the inside could be better. I would maybe recommend staying here again but based on other reviews it would be less likely. And one more thing. I saw blood stains behind the hotel. What's going on back there??

Dated basic hotel in need of a facelift. Expensive as well for a moderate room, everything is relatively close in Waikiki so location was ok. Staff were very helpful with all my requests. It was booked through a travel agent and was staying solo so I also had to pay a single supplement which made the price expensive considering the facilities. Breakfast was included i tried it one didn't bother the other three mornings you can read into that.
Great location

We enjoyed our 3 night stay. The breakfast that was included was enjoyable. I actually enjoyed eating noodles for breakfast 🙂The pancakes were very good as well. Parking is expensive but we found free parking on the street by the canal . The hotel is close to the beach, the international market and many restaurants. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We didn’t use the pool, it is very small.
Stayed here recently for a few weeks and enjoyed my stay. The location is centrally located to many restaurants and shops and only blocks away from the beach. The staff was also super helpful during my stay. And overall you can't beat the great pricing! I recommend checking them out!
Great customer service, great prices, great room, cleanliness and perfect location.

All the staff at the front desk were so helpful and professional. Great location, clean rooms. Nice balcony facing the street for a view. Would definitely stay here again. The bathroom was clean with great hot water and good pressure. The beds were comfortable and clean. A few restaurants nearby to choose from and many more just a short walk away. We used to stay at a different aqua on the other side of Waikiki, but now I think we will stay at this one when we come to Honolulu.

I had an awesome time there next time I come I will bring friends all girls no boys allowed and this time I will stay two days ... I might even try to get in the pool this time... I am so looking forward to coming back to Aqua Palms
The property needs some upgrading work. The A/C in our room 2319 was cranking so loud at night that we cannot sleep. We requested to be moved to another room, and we were given room 4318. This room's A/C is not as loud as the one in room 2319, but it is leaking water from the condenser in the patio that I almost slipped. The water also sipped through the carpet, but I found out about it when we are about to check-out already. The bathroom exhaust fan in this room is cranking loud like a steam boat and can really be a nuisance. Thankfully, it is turned off when not in use - unlike the A/C that has to be turned on all day long. Staff are friendly.
I’d go there again

Visited in march 2021 with my husband and 2 kids.
Pros:
- Walk in distance to Waikiki beach
- Price
- Has a small refrigerator, coffee machine and stove.
- Lobby personal were always helpful and kind. We switched towels with ease, asked to get something printed and it was no issue, got advice on surrounding areas.
- There is a laundry room! Not that I want to do laundry on my vaca, but I used it and was very happy to go on the next island with a suitcase full of clean clothes.
- Pool and hot tub was nice, didnt expect to use it, but we did.
Cons:
-Parking cost (35 a day) and the person there always seemed annoyed.
- There were only 3 chairs total in the room. One inside, and two on the porch. So the 4 of us we couldn’t sit together on the porch as we thought we will after a long flight.
- Washing dishes is done in the bathroom small sink. They give dish soap but no sponge.
-No cleaning service is fine by me with COVID restrictions, but they should at least provide a broom given people are likely to bring in sand.
-bed wasn’t so comfy, but I didn’t expect much either.
Good for the price!

It’s in need of some updates and not as clean as it could’ve been but for the price it was pretty good. The security is better than most and the pool area has been updated with nice grills to cook out on. There is also a laundry room so you can bring less clothes with you. Lots of amenities for the price and a friendly staff.

This was Horrible. $35 for parking everyday, I found roaches in my room and security was also rude. Me personally I wouldn’t stay here again. I would’ve gotten a much better deal somewhere else. Such a shame.
Great experience in Waikiki

This was a great one bedroom place, with plenty of amenities. Enjoyed it being so close to all the stores and restaurants. The pool and hot tub were also a great place to take a break. Overall great stay, and welcome to the island.
The manager is the single worst person I have ever met in my life. Every person on the staff act like lifeless robots. They are the most awful people I have ever met.
They called police and had me arrested for violating quarantine because I parked where they told me because their valet wouldn't park my car. The entire staff knew I had a negative COVID test and I was leaving in a day. They could’ve given me a warning but sent me to jail instead. You people are disgusting.
If you want the worst vacation of your entire life stay here.
And to respond to you, staff didn’t answer the front desk phone. I had to leave my room just to talk to the front desk. You are lucky I don’t sue.
Any decent human being would have given me a warning before having me arrested. However the staff at this hotel are not normal. They do not have emotion. They send guests to jail when they are innocent.
I would not come back if you paid me don’t make me laugh.

Excellent service. You will be treated like family, very convenient and close to almost everything, shopping center, 5 mins walk to the beach. Valet parking and restaurant in property and right across the hotel.
~12 Parking Stalls Maximum ($40+/night each). Extra $25/night + Hotel Rate/Fee. Small Rooms. Worn out place.
ReadySetGo12345678
First, I booked this hotel with credit card points. I arrived at about 9:20 PM Hawaii Time (12:30 AM my time) and was tired. I paid in advance with points and when I arrived they charged me an additional $25+ fee per night which they claimed was for amenities (really to pay for breakfast); something they didn't tell me when I called ahead. Sauna and lobby bathrooms closed. I felt that they should have been more upfront about this fee as I was never told on the booking site or when I called the hotel in advance. It was either pay the additional fee or go somewhere else.
They have ~12 spaces for parking which they charge $40+/night (you leave, you loose). This caused me to have to spend 40 min. per night trying to find streetside parking. Anyone going to stay at this hotel be prepared to find parking along Ala Wai Blvd. They failed to partner with neighboring hotels to provide better accommodations for parking. There is another small lot behind the hotel, but it looks shady, low traffic, and is unattended; this small lot has about 14 stalls. Even if you wanted to stay in either the hotel lot or the lot behind the hotel, they were full most of the time due to limited parking availability. They also did not disclose in advance about this parking problem on their website.
The breakfast is outside under an awning; birds come and peck at the breakfast food and are present on the tables. I didn't mind the birds in the eating areas, but did mind the birds getting on the food serving table. While they did have free breakfast, it had muffins, oranges and pineapple, coffee, cereal, milk, and toast--better than a donut and Tang, but not a great breakfast as there was nothing hot (excluding coffee and toast), and definitely not worth an extra $25+/night. The cereal tasted stale and the oranges were hybrids between grapefruits/oranges and tasted bitter and bland.
The rooms are older and worn out and reflective of 1960's/1970's construction. The carpet is old and dated, the bathroom was kind of yellowish tub and walls. The rooms were small. I stayed on the 5th floor. It appears from reading the comments that the rooms with kitchenettes are newer and better serviced.
I am mostly mad about the parking and $25+/night fee not disclosed in advance. I called in advance and was not told about this. I tried to resolve this with the manager after the trip, but did not receive a call back.
Highly recommend that you get a COVID test before arriving in Hawaii (we did) AND upload it to the Hawaii state site to show a negative test. The hotel will check you upon arrival. If you don't upload the test, you MUST quarantine. This is not the hotel's fault, but it does make extra steps.
The good thing that I liked is that they took points and commend them for this.
Felt like family!
LocalGirl76
We had an awesome experience and made the best of a family emergency. We were able to get reservations on short notice when our mother was admitted to the hospital in Honolulu. We had everything from Tsunami Watch, hotel evac, flood warnings and COVID quarantine. Every evening when we returned to the hotel from a long arduous day we were greeted like family or OHANA. The staff was fantastic, and friendly. From Olivia and Rachel at the front desk, to our Valets Michael and Marcus. Our car was always ready for us in the morning, after a nice continental breakfast. Especially loved the fresh pineapple every morning. The room with kitchenette was perfect and we had a nice view of the ocean. Especially loved the Japanese toilet. We will stay again when we come back this summer and look forward to enjoying the city and walking to the beach which is a nice walk. Mahalo!
Stayed here for a month - they were great!
RobF1685
Free breakfast + coffee every morning, and excellent service. Olivia gives excellent customer service and it's very helpful when it comes to booking multiple rooms. She's also very accommodating with any special requests. Mike at valet was great and always saved us a spot in the garage, and would have the car available nearly instantly every time we needed it. A great location and place to stay, great bang for your buck in Oahu! The hotel is also right in the middle of everything, but one block removed so it's not noisy at all.
I can not say enough good things about our stay. They have 2 pools but only 1 was open due to Covid. When we arrived it was only open from 11-6:30 but shortly after it went to 9-9. the staff were incredible at making sure lounge chairs were sanitized between each person using them. they were right on it. In fact they have to be the hardest working resort staff I have ever seen. they work together like a great team. to get the pool area ready everyday. WiFi covers the entire grounds. I worked out everyday by the seawall. my kids did there school work in our room. We rented directly from the owner. The unit was incredible. If you needed something they had it. Spent a lot of time sitting on the Lanai watching the view. speaking of the view. multiple times we were fortunate enough to see a pod of dolphins going by. Jumping and frolicking about. a couple turtle as well. All in all. this is a great place to stay.

We had the most amazing time at Papakea! After reading a couple of the other negative reviews, I admit I was worried, but I rented directly from an owner rather than thru a third party, and I was not disappointed. The unit was really pretty - nicely updated, fully equipped, and with beautiful views just 50 feet from the water. I spent soooo many hours just sitting on the lanai watching the waves, and enjoyed an ocean lullaby that sang me to sleep every night. The first few days I was there, Hawaii was still requiring people wear masks outside even when they could socially distance, but once the state changed its policy, the resort did too. I completely understand why they had to follow the rules set by the state - but I was really happy once those rules were changed to make more sense! (I have to disagree with Culture 12330543661, who apparently hadn't read the Governor's proclamation that spelled out the state requirements about masking - up until mid-November, the rules were REALLY specific about masks being required in all condominium complex common areas, except when people were swimming or exercising strenuously. No exception for being distanced. Papakea was clearly following the state rules, and if she experienced something different, then I guess the other resorts weren't concerned about breaking the law.) I have to say that all the staff were really pleasant and helpful. I didn't use the pool, so I can't comment on what that experience was like; I do know that when I was there, the south pool was open 9:00 to 9:00 (the north pool was still closed, I guess because of the lack of guests?), but had just expanded the hours. My host was careful to be sure I understood all the rules and requirements when I booked - I really appreciated the care taken so that there were no surprises. I am sad that Culture's host or vacation rental company didn't take the care our host did! Anyway, my experience was so wonderful, I can't wait to go back.
Not exactly a vacation + false advertising. Felt like a prison with a lovely view.
Culture12330543661
(Portland, Oregon)
We came from Oregon & rented a 4th-floor room. First of all, the website said the pool was open 9:00 - 10:00, in actuality, it was only open 11:30 - 6:30 which is the worst UV hours of the day and there is no shade. Also, they advertise two pools, which is false, only one is open. When asked why this change they claimed due to COVID, which is ridiculous because it just condenses the daily use instead of spreading it out over the hours and two pools, so more people during the limited hours and space. We walked down to several neighboring hotels and EVERY SINGLE one except Papakea had a full day at the pool open.
They also don't follow Hawaii State or Aston policies about COVID in the first place, but after visiting neighboring hotels, all the surrounding hotels DO. Papakea wants you wearing a mask on the outside grounds even if you are alone. An employee told a mother of a toddler to put a mask on the child. First of all, toddlers/babies shouldn't wear a mask, second, she was thirty feet away from any human! Plus she was walking ALONE, with her toddler. Papakea's policies are illogical & not even state or hotel guidelines, they are their own illogical, draconian, unscientific virtue-signaling that makes the place feel like a prison with a pretty view. The worst part is we were not informed of the prison cell policies until we got there. Oregon is a little far to turn around & go home. Also, there was a water fountain below us that was incredibly noisy. You'd think they'd turn it off during quiet hours, but no, it's on all night. When I asked an employee if they could please turn it off at night so we could sleep, they told me NO because of COVID. What? COVID is their excuse for everything that is miserable here, there is no way turning off a loud fountain at night is a COVID risk.
While our family was visiting other hotels along the same strip we saw people laughing, having fun, using the pool late at night, and felt so jealous. We made a hard choice and changed our flight to stay on 3 more days at another hotel so we could at least have a bit of a vacation. We stayed at Ka'anapali Beach Club, which was a very positive experience! They followed COVID rules, but the ones that can actually keep you safe, plus they had hand sanitizer everywhere, which is great! They were so friendly and people walking the grounds alone were not harassed for not having their mask up. Kids & babies were not harassed. Everyone was great about social distancing and super friendly. The pool was open and even its slide was open and running the full hours, which were even longer hours than the falsely advertised hours at the Papakea even if they had opened like the advertised! Plus, at the new hotel the only sound we heard at night was laughter and the ocean instead of a loud water machine.
The bottom line for us was our vacation at the Papakea felt very stressful, more like we survived it than enjoyed it, our second experience was beautiful and relaxing with the added benefit of feeling truly safer from COVID since the second hotel followed actual scientific rules and encouraged sanitation, social distancing instead of worthless authoritarian "virtue-signaling" which can not keep anyone safe from a virus. Glad we tagged on the extra three days so not a total waste of money, flight and vacation days
Do Not Book Through Costco
GingercookieS88
This Lahaina resort was lovely as the grounds were well kept and the pool was clean with many attractive areas for outdoor dinners, avail bbqs, evening strolls and the like. There is no restaurant and no beach but you can pull up your lounger on the spongy soft grass (if you are taking a break from sight-seeing!) and enjoy the *incredible* ocean view. There is much whale activity in February as it's mating season.
This Aston at Papakea is next to the ever popular "food truck" extravaganza. It also connects to the picturesque Boardwalk, there is a grocery store, bar, fast food takeout, souvenir store in the mini mall and a Slappy Jacks within short walking distance.
Spectacular beaches to the south and ones for snorkelling a short drive to the north (do your research on the safest times!) Minutes away from the amazing Honoapiilani Highway with a few fruit/banana bread stands if you need a break from the breathtaking views! PS do not irritate the locals on this HWY pull over if they're driving faster than you! The front desk staff at the resort is incredibly kind and towel service is swift (not free after 1 set with Costco.)
I will warn you not to book through Costco because they bought 5 of these units and do not maintain them. Many units are privately owned (lucky them!) The carpeting was disgusting, the walls were dirty, you wrestle sliding doors, the sink had a horrendous garbage smell emanating from it and the rusty fridge needed replacing. A little goes a long way had Costco just invested a little of their annual 21 billion income. Why not make guests feel they're sleeping in clean quarters? We were taken to another unit that was less desirable than the first. Thankfully being in Hawaii we were not room-fixated but for the upgrade COST for an oceanfront room I would have expected much better. 1 clean service 1 towel service for 2 weeks. Like I say, I'm sure the Resort has better care with direct customer reservations but Costco fails *for what they charge you.* Don't waste your money on Costco. Book your own accommodations.

Dear Management
Upon checking into the room we were told that they gave us a different room then requested. When we entered the room we found a dirty room with writing on the walls , air conditioner wasn’t working, broken fans , moldy shower floor, bedroom had no air and closet had dirty things inside. This room was in much need of cleaning and repairing. We could not stay in there due to these conditions. I contacted your office and told the person in there about these problems and they said they couldn’t do anything. I asked to speak to a manger and they said nobody was there. I told them I was checking out and they should refund my money due to not giving me a livable place to stay. They said they could not do that . I told them that I was checking out please refund my money. I then went to the front desk where they checked me out and refunded me their fee. They also never called me back or refunded my money.
We actually visited in September of 2019. The hospitality was superb. Beautiful views. The manager Ronald has collected native artifacts and gives a “free of charge” history talk about the artifacts and the culture of Hawaii. History lovers will love learning about the local culture!
TERRIBLE!!
Nonya123456
Stayed in 511, dirty, outdated, and smelly. Upon arrival, kitchen counters were dirty, appliances sticky, hair all over bathroom as if not even swept, much less cleaned. Wondering if the “cleaning fee “ is simply an extra a pocketed fee. The font clerk was less than welcoming, and I was Charged another $290 at check in after “pre-paying”.... the total ended up being more expensive than our previous 4 nights at Aulani on Oahu (beautiful, clean beach front resort with amazing beach, wonderful service, and did I say clean??). Everything was outdated & dirty; not to mention the nasty sheets. I was itching to get home literally - as this was the last leg of our trip. Not the ending relaxation I had in mind. Eek!!

We stayed at the Aston Poipu Kai and had a few challenges, rental car hit in parking lot and other things, the first 3 days of our 11 day vacation. My wife was ready to buy a ticket home. We told Takara Carreira about the issues we were having and she took care of everything. It was amazing. She made our vacation! The extra effort that she put in for us made this an amazing worry free trip. We will return because of the customer service we received and the accommodations. Thank you Takara!
Nice enough, but could use some updates
Janell L
My husband and I stayed Jan 9-16 2020. Overall, the place was nice, but could use a few updates. First of all, we were in room 112. We were promised an ocean view, but no such luck, couldnt even hear it. We were right by the pool and hot tub, but really wanted the ocean. The one thing inside our room that needs some help was the bath tub. It was disgusting! The water was almost knee high after being in the shower for about 3 minutes. Plus, it was dirty looking, for sure not something you would want to take a bath in, or put an infant in to bathe!! The other parts of the place were nice, clean and had everything you would need. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need, very good condition, including dishes, pots/pans, utensils, coffee pot, toaster, microwave ect. Fridge does not have an ice maker, but that didnt bother us. The other extremely frustrating thing was the hot tub. We had a few days of cooler weather so thought we would enjoy the hot tub. When we stuck our toes in, it was freezing cold!! Then we see a sign that said "we are not getting a new propane tank until the person who stole ours returns it." Now anyone with any common sense knows that thief has no intent of returning the propane tank so just get a new one! I felt it totally ridiculous that we as guests, had to pay the price of a freezing "hot" tub! So we couldn't see/hear the ocean, we could not use the hot tub, was soooooo not impressed with that!! It was located 1/2 block away from a fun restaurant/bar called Joe's something? They had super food and great service! We went there for breakfast, lunch and dinner over the time we were there. All the other places we ate at during our stay were fantastic as well! Food at the grocery store was super expensive, other than seafood. Shopped at Safeway to get some basics for our condo. The best part was the seafood! King crab, cooked and cleaned, was only $7 per pound! The size of the meat was equivalent to the size of a piece of string cheese! It was melt in your mouth excellent!! Shopping was great! After we bought a few things from local stores/shops, we had to make a Wal-mart run for a few forgotton items. We found the exact same things we had just bought, but for half the price, even the same company! They have a little tourist section that has all kinds of wooden bowls/plates/trays, lotions, soaps, chap stick, bags, jams and lots more. Flights were perfect, (Delta) long way from Wisconsin! Had a great time, and would recommend, but make sure to ask lots of questions about the rooms. Also, keep in mind, there is no daily maid service, but the washer and dryer were great! There was a small patio that we used daily, since we were on the first floor, our patio was covered by the second floor one. Our bedroom did have an AC unit that we did use a few times, but not every day. ALOHA!!

Condo was clean and comfortable; only real problem is that there is no A/C for any area except bedroom; there are times when my wife and I wanted to just relax with the TV in living area, but could not because by 5PM the room is too hot. 2. pool is not heated, we went for a swim at 8M and could not get in as it was cold.
If you're like me, and are not looking for the typical Waikiki hustle and bustle of tourists, this is a great option. Located in downtown Honolulu it's a short walk to several shops for essentials, with a full size drugstore at the base of the building (Longs). On site parking is reasonably priced for Oahu, and typical rooms come with a kitchenette, basic dishes, half fridge, etc.
DO NOT RESERVE A STAY UNTIL AFTER COVID ZERO CANCELLATION POLICY!
TiffnEd756
(Kinnelon, New Jersey)
We stayed there about 4 years ago because it was close to the airport after inter island flights and it was fine. I was raised on the Big Island and come home every year. This time I booked again for the same reason, coming in from Kauai and leaving the next day for the mainland and had no early flights to Oahu. I booked through Expedia because we needed a car also. We ordered 6 Covid tests, arranged testing before we leave and flying direct flight front row of first class to keep as safe as possible. Well, They announced yesterday that Kauai was back on shut down. I just cancelled our entire 8 day trip, too many shut downs, of which I totally understand, I don't want to bring it to my beautiful home.
They would not refund the nights stay, I understand hotel policy, however, I would expect some type of exceptions be made under these circumstances. Every other hotel, air, excursions, rental vehicles were able to be cancelled except this one hotel. Absolutely ridiculous especially given the need for tourism dollars in Hawaii. Sad.
Great Location for Downtown
TweedleDeee
(Huntsville, Alabama)
If you are working in the downtown area it is greatly located. The lobby area is nice along with nice views from the upper floors. There is also a good number of shopping and eating options in the area, and even within a very easy walk to McD's and Walmart.
Parking is available but is a bit of a pain to access as you have to change elevators to access floors 3-9 which is the parking areas. It is also can get quite costly at about $20 a day.
Now the bad, the Apt we stayed in was decently clean, had a decent bed, but the rest of the furniture and accommodations were cheap. Even the kitchen utensils, silverware, and cookware were pathetic. Since I have now found out these are condo units and owned by individuals, I guess it makes sense that some are better than others. This room wasn't terrible but it could definitely use some upgrades.
This is downtown, so after about 6 pm all the business people are gone and all that is left is the homeless and they are EVERYWHERE. Not the fault of the hotel but Oahu has a serious homeless problem and it shows, in this area, at night.
Staff member NIZ is awesome
mosesf2015
I checked in on Friday 6 March around 2pm. My room wasn't ready but front desk found 3608 available so I assigned this one. When I walked in it smelled like cigarettes had been smoked in it but more importantly, I was amazed at the size of this room. I was greeted with a fully kitted out kitchen (except an oven) that could fit three people easily. After this was a huge lounge, great carpet, leather lounge suite, decent size HD 40" or more TV with cable, and seating for at least five people. Probably more given the space it commanded. A slide door separates it from the master bedroom (that's how I would describe it), including another TV screen, office desk and this room was also huge. It also has a washer and dryer and ample wardrobe space. I think the ensuite needs an upgrade especially the bathtub, the tv in the master room doesn't work, and the internet too.
I called front desk and spoke with Niz. We both tried trouble shooting looking at the equipment but that wasn't the problem. Niz called the internet provider and they couldn't find what the problem was. I couldn't log in to internet and I had two university guest lectures to give in: 12-3pm and 6-8pm. It wasn't until 1am in the morning when Niz rescued me and put me in 3805 so I can get an internet connection. Wow! This room was awesome. It was certainly an upgrade. It was immaculate and a step up from 3608.
Niz has been at the Aston for a decade or more and an able supervisor. She went all out to make sure my stay was comfortable so I would like to commend Niz.

Very very dissapointed with the hotel, it is not as advertised! The room smelled and the furniture was outdated and old. Turns out it is a Time-share room which I was not informed of at any stage, thus the lived in smell!! We were moved the following day to another room, better view but still SMELLED! Bed(s) were old and uncormfortable. All in all, a very poor start to our vacation. The restaurnat in the lobby doesnt even belong to the hotel either. Overall, not as advertised, expensive for what is on offer, and no contact with management either during or subsequent to the fiasco. The front staff were very nice and tied to help in a situation that obvioulsy they have no control over.
Beware Hidden fees ! Booked online 3 nights for $203/ night then got hot with $229 in fees at check in.

No daily cleaning service but a $125 cleaning fee will be charged, $39 damage waiver, reservation fee 29 plus taxes on all these fees totaled $229! No lobby, no restaurant, no bar, no ice machines, no room service, no beach chairs, charge for beach towels, window A/C will not break 75 degrees if run 24/7, tiny pool, room looks like a cheap Daytona Beach Motel from the 80’s.. wore out wicker furniture with pastel colors. Very musty smelling, wore out carpet. This property is barely a 2-star Motel...not a Hotel. Was a little worried when there were 2 exterminator trucks parked in the loading zone.
Not very clean
Katrina C
The room and bathroom were not clean. You could tell that frequently touched surfaces, like the sliding glass door, hadn't been cleaned. This was surprising considering they were promoting their "next level clean" during the pandemic. I wished we had stayed at one of the resorts where we probably would have gotten more value for our money.
My Maui Trip

Maui was amazing, my room was ok, I didn’t like the set up personally. However the grounds were beautiful and I spent most of my time outside enjoying the beautiful weather. The parking lot was hard to maneuver and very close together. I wished I had rented a smaller car. I would have liked a sitting area in the room besides the one chair at the desk. That being said I was encouraged to spend all or most of my time outside the room which was amazing. I would visit again with all that being said.
Ugh!

Couldn't find my reservation. Mainland answering service was awful. Finally got help from local security and into my room after an hour wait, only to spend the next three days arguing about room charges. Was a mess. Local staff finally got it worked out. Will never stay again.
Room G504

(Napa Valley, California)
Best trip ever. Room assignment was great (g504). Fresh air wonderful (open the sliders). Walked to beach every day. Kihei is great. No high rise hotels, mostly condos. Great location to walk to breakfast and dinner.
The only advantage this hotel has is the location. The rooms and building are very outdated. The beds were very uncomfortable and old. The elevators consistently had issues. The interior hallways were in very poor shape. The door lock would stick. It wasn't worth the money saved. Skip it if you can.
Affordable condo close to Waikiki beach
Stephanie M
(Maple Valley, United States)
This condo was only a 3-5 minute walk from the beach and 1/2 the cost of beachfront hotels. Was easily walkable to International Marketplace and restaurants too. All staff encountered were friendly. The building and the rooms are old and outdated but that is not a big deal to me. Everything worked and was clean. The lanai was small but worked for two people (would not have worked well for more than that). There was a small view of the ocean and the mountains. The walls are thin but there weren't many people on my floor due to Covid so wasn't a big deal. Traffic noise got louder as the week went on too. Occupancy definitely picked up by the time we left (close to Spring Break). Parking garage was fine. Lowest prices of any hotel around too! Most of the recreation deck was closed (I think for remodeling or repairs?) The grills are "pay to use" and you aren't supposed to bring down glass but everything in your unit is glass so not sure how that was supposed to work. Don't know if there are grill tools there or not. The pool was a decent size and the water felt good, not too cold. The hot tub was a little small but there are two so it worked out ok. Each tub fit 4 adults well with distancing but could hold 8 in normal times. No pool towels are provided so you have to take bath towels. Complementary movies and PlayStation games are available but we did not use either. The bed was comfortable but wobbled whenever anyone rolled over. AC unit is in the living area so if you close the bedroom door it got stuffy in there. Bathroom was small but again, with only two of us, was doable. Have to go through the bedroom to get to the bathroom. We have stayed at Aston properties before and have not been disappointed. I will take an older couch and carpet and a short walk to the beach to save on expenses. Everything worked, was clean and staff was friendly. I felt safe in the area walking by myself. That is what matters to me.

It was a nice relaxing hotel!!! However the elevators took to long and there service wasn’t the greatest had to go down stairs to get my own shampoo and stuff and the security at the pool was very rude.
Misleading! Heavy construction until April 30, 2021
LumC99
My stay is from March 29 - April 4, 2021. Hence, I have just arrived, still here, and contemplating on going to another hotel. First, they do not tell you that their property is under construction until end of April, 2021. First day I arrived, there was no water for a few hours... not good when you just really wanna shower after a long plane ride. Next morning at 8am I was awaken by construction work, LOUD drilling on the walls that lasted for hours!!! Their room floors are soo dirty. Their hallways are filled with construction dust and dirt. For $200 per night, I can definitely find a better place. The one thing that upsets me most is, they don’t disclose that this property is under construction. Very misleading!

Great accommodations with easy access to the beach, perfectly located within walking distance to shops and restaurants.Central location for trips to north and south shores. Pricing and amenities were great, will come again !

Kauai Re-Opening Experience Lovely

We decided to take a trip for a birthday and chose the Islander on the Beach for the Aston name reputation and the location. Since the property had very low occupancy due to 3 days after Kauai re-opened (Covid19) amenities were closed ie...bar, shops etc. That was to be expected but Lori was so kind!! She greeted us at check in, provided information , a birthday welcome gift, some coffee vouchers and her phone number so that if we had questions or needed anything we could reach her. We did have a few questions and Lori was super quick to respond! Thank you Lori!!! Not having the resort full and the pool to yourself will spoil you :) The room is decorated Tiki terrific, clean and has everything we needed. We had an Oean Front room and it is wonderful to wake up to the sound of the crashing waves. The size of the resort is small/medium and perfect for our taste. The grounds are manicured and lovely. The location is central and could not be better for everything we wanted to do. Many great restaurants close by and the best of all is the Coconut Marketplace is walking distance. The Marketplace has the best ABC store with food & snacks to keep in your frig in room. Also a deli and hot food meals if you prefer. Since many shops around Kauai in the towns are still closed the ABC store saved us on our shopping. The marketplace has great shop choices and other eateries we took advantage of and most were open. This is a special resort and what I prefer over the huge ones that seem to lose their personalized touch. I highly recommend The Aston Islander on the Beach and look for Lori, she is the kindest person you can meet.

We stayed here for two nights and our experience was great despite the whole covid thing. Hotel occupancy was very minimal and so we got to experience this place as if we were the only people here. The tourists aren't back yet so BOOK here before it ends! The staff are very helpful and pleasant, so remember to tip good! Also remember to be respectful during your stay. Thank you.

My girl and I wanted to get off Oahu for the weekend and shoot over to Kauai for some fun. Was looking at a bunch of hotels and landed on this gem oceanfront and in a very convenient location. The rooms had a vintage feel and were cozy and the property was gorgeous. Definitely a great price for locals who want to go outer island or for visitors coming to Hawaii. We will definitely be staying here again.
$300 room per night….Three star rooms, one star staff. I would recommend to stay away from this place find another better place. Not worth the money and the service from the staff. We are on vacation and look forward to have a good time, relax and enjoy the vacation!!!

Very beautiful location. Staff is very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that we were promised a room upgrade when booking (the reason we chose to stay here), and then were denied this upgrade on check-in. If advertised, I would take this with a grain of salt next time.

Overpriced and disappointing for sure

The Beach Club Restaurant had the best macadamia pancakes on the island. The were hot, fluffy and served with a generous portion of macadamia nuts. We tried other restaurants in the area for comparison. They did not meet the standard of the Beach Club!!!!!
Aston Kaanapali Shores in Maui: Terrible service terrible stay
Bellavoce1
We were frequent visitors of Maui pre Covid but had stayed at the Westin Villas. Due to the influx of visitors this April, the Westin and many other reputable hotels were booked. Hawaiin Air recommended this hotel to us and we were disappointed from the beginning to the end. We were told at check in that due to Covid we would not be receiving cleaning service. At arrival our room was dated and dirty. Our air conditioning, TV and screen door were not functioning. When we asked for repairs no one came. There was no staff present to service us at any area of the hotel. Many days we waited for the pool attendant to arrive very late. There was no beach access and the closest beach was a 10 minute walk. The pool areas were extremely full although we had heard that all hotels were supposed to be at 30% occupancy due to Covid. There was no staff monitoring Covid protocols and no guest adhering to Covid protocols. To add insult to injury, our friends who were lucky to be staying at neighboring resorts experienced all the things we were denied - full staff, full service, adherence to Covid protocols, and daily cleaning service,
It was a wonderful unit and the location is great. Unit 106 was perfect. Listening to the sound of the ocean and watching the sunsets from the lanai were great. This unit had all of the beach extras which was really great.the picture was taken from the unit. Thanks again for a great stay.
Location, Comfort, Well-Equipped, Nicely Furnished, a Trifle Dated, and a View

In Kona for business for a couple of nights, the Aston Kona was was perfect. Read on for details.
With a coastal location, the AKbtS has a lot to offer if you are looking for a condo. My one bedroom/two bathroom had everything I needed. The kitchen was one of the best equipped kitchens I have ever seen in a condo. The balcony offered a solid ocean view. The furniture and fixtures were a mix of dated and updated. The stacked washer/dryer was a nice touch, as was the dishwasher. The parking is free and the WiFi solid.
You bet I'd return.
Good for families

(Kailua, Hawaii)
We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom suites and overall it was pretty good. It definitely feels dated with dark brown shag carpet and the cabinets are worn where they have taken lots of use. It was a well furnished kitchen with a full sized fridge, microwave, toaster, and coffee pot. We didn’t cook so I didn’t notice if it had a stove/oven. The views out of the ocean view condos were stunning, and we kept our sliding doors open almost the entire time to take advantage of them!
The pool was nice with plenty of chairs and tables. The hot tub wasn’t working during our stay. The beach is not kid friendly as it is a very rocky shore break. There is a protected area where some people were swimming but we didn’t venture down to it.
The downside: the master bedroom and the living room are separated by sliding panels with slats in them. It allowed for no sound barrier between the 2 rooms, and with kids that get up early, it was literally like having the kitchen in your bedroom. We could clearly hear the coffee brewing from bed.
Overall, we would stay here again if the price is right.
Outstanding Service

I would highly recommend this property. I had a challenge with my dates and the property was very accommodating and willing to help. I will definitely book with them again on my next visit to the island!

We stayed for two weeks and couldn’t have asked for a better property or location. Easy parking and the property was well kept. The orientation of the buildings is to be noted. The building runs almost parallel to the ocean, allowing all units with partial to full ocean views. The pool and sand area were updated with new furniture and we used the barbecues to prepare evening meals.

I've been on hold for 17 minutes trying to make a reservation. There is construction going on at Mahana so I didn't want to make reservations online without some assurances, ie I didn't want to pay $500 and have dust and noise from construction outside my lanai.
Anyways, I gave up. If I have to wait 17 minutes to give them my money, imagine the poor service once they had your money!

We stayed at the Mahana in #1107...the unit itself was great. Very clean and updated...laundry in the unit and supplies for the beach. Pool area is nice and parking was never an issue. The view is outstanding...

(Minneapolis, Minnesota)
We stayed at the Mahana in March/April 2021 for a week and had a fabulous time. The location to the beach is the closest on the island and it felt as you could touch the ocean from the room. While there isn’t a beach to layout on (because the resort is that close to the beach) you can walk 3 minutes (literally 3 minutes at most) and have the full Ka’annapali beach to layout as you wish. The room view from the room was the most incredible ever. I would highly recommend the Mahana and would plan to stay here again.
Amazing waterfront views
Timothy J
(Anchorage, Alaska)
Absolutely loved this place. Amazing waterfront views from your lanai, which is so close to the ocean it feels like you’re darn near on top of it. We saw whales, seals and sea turtles right from our patio. Beautiful rainbows and incredible sunsets every single night. The grounds are pretty nice too with beautiful, lush gardens in the front. The whole place had a kind of quiet tucked away vibe even though it’s actually pretty darn close to everything. Most everything you could need as far as a grocery store, coffee shop, quick eats, etc. is within easy walking distance.
The downsides meant very little to us but they might to others. First, there are not very many amenities and the pool area is quite basic. Second there is very little beachfront, like maybe 5-10ft wide. Third it’s pretty windy (though the lanais are very well protected). Fourth, there aren’t many sit-down restaurants or bars nearby, though Duke’s (right next door) is quite good. Most everything is a short drive away but if you truly want to be right smack in the middle of it all you may have to go a little further south along kaanapali beach. We liked this as it added to the relaxing retreat vibe, but others may be looking for something different.
We’ll definitely consider this property again should we return to Maui, and will recommend it to our friends. Thanks for the great stay.
BEST Views in town!

(San Clemente, California)
We booked the Aston Mahana because of their flexibility with cancelation. The proximity to the ocean was the best out of all the other resorts we looked at. They are very mask "crazy" which was annoying since we were outside and the wind was blowing.
Maui Hill is Kihei’s best family-friendly and couples-friendly condos. We’ve stayed at this resort now 7 times since 2013 and keep coming back. The property is wonderful, relaxing, and comfortable – there is no place like it. The staff is customer-focused and welcoming to guests. The check-in and check-out process is easy.
I’ve also stayed in Wailea at Outrigger Palms at Wailea, Mana Kai Resort, and Days Inn and do not recommend those locations. There is no comparison to the tranquil vibe you get at Maui Hill. You won’t find the comfort, valued service anywhere else. There are no hidden fees such as cleanout, parking, resort fees like with other resorts. You can ask for additional beds, cribs, they don’t charge.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The landscaping is immaculate. There are gas BBQs all over the property. My husband loves to BBQ, and we enjoyed this feature. The lanai had plenty of room to relax and enjoy the beautiful views. The units are spacious and fully equipped. You receive grocery discounts with check-in (10% discount).
Each unit is different. Many are updated and different from the photos online. The kitchens are fully equipped. There was plenty of room. The master bedroom was huge and had its entrance to the lanai.
There was a patio/lanai (one for each bedroom and living room) which is very spacious in the units we’ve stayed in. We spent a lot on the lanai relaxing and enjoying the beautiful views. That’s my favorite part of the day is spending the morning looking at the gorgeous views and listening to the birds and ocean.
The master bedroom had high ceilings and a separate entrance to the lanai. The bed was very comfortable. In addition to a nice, fully equipped kitchen, gas BBQs are all over the property.
The pool is relaxing. The units have a washer and dryer unlike many condos in Maui. You can pack lighter and not worry about it, because the units are like home if you lived in a beautiful paradise.
There is easy access to nearby shops and restaurants, Kamaole Beach Parks, and golf courses. You are minutes from high-end shopping at Shops at Wailea, grocery stores, local shops.
The on-site amenities include a quiet swimming pool, golf putting green, tennis court, shuffleboard, and barbecue grills. It is near the beach, and you have a gorgeous beach walk to experience. It’s my favorite morning ritual after coffee and breakfast from the lanai.
The staff did an excellent job during COVID when we visited last month. The property is clean and safe. They checked our covid results upon check-in, and the cleaning staff comes in every day and does an excellent job with towels and cleaning. (This is something to consider when looking at other condo properties such as Outrigger, which does not clean every day and charges a clean-out fee.).
In addition to vacation, I would recommend this location for people who work remotely. The rooms are spacious, and the wifi is reliable.
Dennis Costa is the General Manager. He is like family now. He always welcomes us home! Dennis and the staff exceeded our expectations! The staff was so friendly, professional, customer-focused, and accommodating.
Maui Hill is situated on lush tropical landscaping in Kihei on Maui, just minutes from Wailea. Kihei is a delightful town with restaurant options, grocery stores, and beach parks. There is an excellent restaurant across the street from Maui Hill 5 Palms Restaurant in Mana Kai Resort (don’t stay there – you can enjoy the beach and restaurant and have a better resort, more room, and better customer service at the Maui Hill). You can walk over and catch the beautiful sunsets. The sunsets are also stunning from your lanai at Maui Hill if you get an Ocean View, which I strongly recommend!
This is the best secret on Maui. I almost don’t want to share how good it is, because it is my happy place!

Great experience. Will definitely return. We arrived later in the evening and the staff were very welcoming. We had a large group and the Room we were given was close to the pool and the office as well as having a great view of the ocean.

Great location. Rooms are a little outdated but still very nice and have all needed for your stay. No fitness center but has a pool, shuffle board, tennis and putting green. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Overall great stay and will be back for sure.

The service provided before the trip and during our stay was great. As in the past, staff (Dennis and others) was very helpful and accommodating. The location of the room, view and quietness of the location was great. We liked the room, service, staff and location and plan to revisit in the future.
The condo itself was really nice- large open space with high ceilings, big kitchen, nice big patio/lanai. The kitchen has good utensils and new countertops. There were lots of towels. But the furniture was really worn out and old. The linen was scratchy and there was only one thin ugly blanket. I brought a beach blanket that I ended up using on the bed because the one provided was so poor.
Not what we expected

We stayed there thing it would be a nice place . Our room was nice enough bu the pool and surrounding area were so hot, you could not walk on stones surrounding the pool . Forget about going in the pool it was like a hot bath . I felt like we were a Floating Petri dish . We went in for less than 1 minute . Not sure what you can do to cool down maybe some umbrellas ??

We enjoyed this property. We have stayed at other Ashton's and we're impressed by the grounds of this one as well. This one does not have the office on property so influenced the score a bit. The condo itself was nice but a little more dated then others I have stayed at. The bathtub/ shower has a huge step in and out with no grab bars. There is no cleaning service included in the stay without an additional cleaning fee. Towels are in abundance and cheerfully delivered. The dishwasher had something awful in the bottom that we reported. The Lanai was beautiful and beds clean and comfortable. It seemed like this unit hadn't been used for awhile as the plants and end tables were dusty and there were a few bugs (this is the tropics). The beds were comfortable. Over all the stay was great and I would stay at an Ashton again. All three of us enjoyed our stay here. We especially enjoyed our evening visits to the pool and hot tub. Very convenient location. Quiet property which suited our needs. Grills scattered throughout property for use. Gated community with a code for entry. A different code for pool and fitness center. I would stay again.

When we arrived it was clear the unit had not been cleaned. My daughter ended up getting lice from the bed, and was bit multiple times by something overnight. The floors were dirty and clearly not vacuumed. Showers weren’t cleaned. Hawaii was beautiful, but will definitely stay somewhere else next time.

Waikoloa Shores located in an ideallic setting, swimming pool, hot tub, tennis court, work out room, close to shops, and A-Bay that is great for kayaking, sailing, and snorkeling. Property is immaculate and family friendly. Home away from home.
We are a family of 6 ages 8-17. We loved this hotel - very clean, plenty of space, the staff was very welcoming. Loved being able to walk to restaurants, stores, bars and the beach. Loved the big beach towels we could borrow every day and the free valet parking. We paid for the higher floor room and i feel it was worth it - the views were amazing. I loved this place and would def stay there again.

Extremely helpful and courteous staff. From the check-in, to the valet, everyone was really helpful. Although expensive, the room and views were great. Walking in, this place doesn't have a grand lobby and waiting room like most hotels, but it more than makes up for it via the view from its room.
Highly recommended!

Second visit here in 2 years, best place to stay for a family in waikiki
LA-to-Hawaii
(Irvine, Pennsylvania)
We stayed at this hotel recently during our 1 week vacation in Oahu. This was our second stay and the experience was even better
1. the location is great - beach is right across the street and the entrance to the hotel is tucked away in a side street -- the area is not the busiest or noisiest part of waikiki
2. the hotel is not as intimidating as some of other larger resorts - it truly feels like a home away from home. front desk staff are very courteous and helpful, valet crew is A+ and housekeeping is top notch. I have spent more $$ on fancy hotels in LA and San Diego and came away disappointed compared to what I saw here
3. the rooms are huge and only a few per floor - so it never feels super crowded at any point in time. The balconies are big, kitchen and bathrooms are nicely upgraded and everything works as it should
4. If you are looking for a 2BR type accommodation, do check them out before signing up for any of the other larger resorts. It is great value for the $$
DO NOT BOOK!!
I booked this hotel March 3 for this week and prepaid for my stay!! I showed up on April 15th after flying for 13 hours at 9pm for them to tell me my reservation was for April 1-7. I pulled up my email to show them this was not true and I never would have booked that since I’ve had these flights since beginning of 2021.
They would not work with me directly and would only talk to my agent (3am at home) and said to book a new reservation. After back and forth we went to do it since I had no choice and they said they were sold out and I couldn’t stay there!!
I suspect they cancelled my reservation since the price was now triple!
Luckily the doubletree by Hilton saved the day but I had to shell out $600 more this week and now have to fight to get the money back from this hotel since I was “a no show” that was THEIR ERROR!
VIEW!!! Great Location, and Value
Mike F
(Peekskill, New York)
This is an older and small hotel in the greatest possible location. It is directly across the street from the wall enclosed swimming area at Waikiki beach. The location is what makes this hotel an unbelieveable value. It is at least 30% cheaper (at least in non-covid times) than any other hotel on the beach. That said, this hotel is older and very small. But if you know this going in, it is FANTASTIC. First, the rooms are tiny. The two double beds barely fit. But when yo get to the balcony (lanai) you realize it was all worth it. I paid for the top delux level, which is one of the three rooms directly facing the front of the hotel (it is a round building). My room looked directly athteh beach. I was on teh 13th floor, with a view to love. Every morning I woke to the birds in the incredible banyan tree across the street and surfers catching waves before their days start. Like all hotels in resort locations, they charge a resort fee so they do not have to share all their rate with hotel and travel sites. As long as you know this going in and factor it into the rate, you should be fine as it is still the best deal on the beach. Just be aware of it as it is clear as can be on their site and on hotels . com. You do not get any perks for the resort fee other than use of beach towels and dvd movie rentals for free. The location is right near everything. The breakfast joint in front, Eggs and things, is AMAZING and you get 10% off for being a hotel guest. People line up 30 minutes before it opens, so if you want to get in, be there at least 20 minutes early or you will not get in, its a small place. The staff was great to us, very friendly and helpful with recommendations. OVerall a trully great experience. Its small, a little bit old, but a great place with teh best value.

You can't beat the location! In the heart of Waikiki directly across the big blue ocean and walking distance to everywhere in Waikiki. Great customer service. Only thing to be aware, there is VERY limited parking which is only available 1st come 1st serve, so that may be a challenge if it fills up. Outside of that, wonderful lil gem! We'll definitely be back again!

We absolutely loved this hotel. The price was great and John at the front desk is one of the reasons we will be back to stay again. The location is perfect, our room was clean and updated. We really enjoyed our stay
As always, such welcoming staff members during our stay here. We are locals here on Oahu, but we like to take a getaway, staycation trip every now and then. With COVID still going on, the staff members do a great job and going that extra mile to make you feel safe during your stay.
Wait a few years for repairs

My husband and I stayed here for the winter last year, and really enjoyed the location, our view of Diamond Head, having two bedrooms, a kitchen and parking. We liked it so much we booked our return trip before we left to head home for the summer. We were aware some plumbing and air conditioning work was to begin in the spring, and last throughout the summer. The hotel/condo association decided not to do the work during covid, despite the hotel being shut down, and very few residents in the building. 10 days into our 6 month stay, November 10th, we get notice that there was a “catastrophic plumbing failure” and we would not have use of our kitchen sink. One week later and 2 additional days of no water at all (which also means no AC) we were informed that it wouldn’t be fixed until mid-January. We did place a call with the condo manager, Craig, to try to understand what was happening, and he was very rude and dismissive of our circumstances, and not willing to work with us to perhaps move to another condo in the building, etc. Note that this is only at one end of the building. BUT the whole building will need to be repaired at some point.
Best to wait a few years for all the repairs to be completed and come back, otherwise you’ll have to put up with constant disruption due to repairs.

This is actually our second time staying at the Aston Waikki Sunset. The first time was great and the location is awesome so we thought we would book here again. We found the staff at the front desk to not be very friendly from the minute we checked in. We asked about the hospitality shuttle that the hotel provides and the staff member just acted like he knew nothing about it. There was another guest who overheard our conversation and she mentioned that she had been there for a few days and had been paying for cabs because no one told her about the shuttle service. Clients should be made aware of the services that they are paying for in the resort fee. Housekeeping was also not up to standard. The hotel as a whole needs a facelift starting with the Lobby. I definitely would not be staying at the Aston Sunset again nor would I recommend it. It's sad because the location is perfect.
WARNING :BLACK STUFF COMING OUT OF AC.
Odyssey617496
Black particles over everything floor, rugs, walls, drapes, toilet seat, walls. Would not recommend at all for the elderly or young children. Or a service animals.Building is aware of this situation slowly switching out air conditioners over the next years. Read other reviews. This is more a public service than anything else. The rugs in the halls are filthy. I WOULDNT The men this property or to people with children elderly. Definitely nobody with respiratory issues at all. Location is great. Front desk staff is great! Building management terrible they should be ashamed to expose the public to this!
Great condo in a great location

We stayed here in January 2020. Our room was on the 19th floor with Diamond Head and ocean views. We picked this condo because of the kitchenette and its price. I loved having the ability to cook our meals in the condo, BBQ, or walk to a restaurant. I also like the fact that each floor had its own coin operated laundry. It is convenient that we can don't have to pack lots for our 10 day holiday. Our room was located right beside the elevators however there was no excess noise from them. I was pleasantly surprised. The front desk staff were cheerful and helpful when we had questions. A special shout out to Sandi, she loves her job and you can tell .
First of all...this is not a resort nor hotel. Huge disappointment. Our 3 bedroom 802 villa was fithy...Gross and disgusting. The kitchen sink has some kind of gross mold growing around the edges. So out dated, the coffe maker was straight out of the 80s. The glass dining room table had finger prints covering it, like it wasn't even cleaned for our arrival. The out door furniture was so old and weather you couldnt sit in the chairs without getting a splinter. All the baseboards have a thick layer of dust. Windows, glass doors dirty. Our upstairs shower was leaking down a vent into the half bath downstairs. The beds in each room were the most uncomfortable and wrapped in some kind a plastic coving the matress. The grounds are beautiful, but of course it's Hawaii. I can't understand after staying here why it's a 4 star..
Not impressed
Rob7039
I’m not 100% sure the staff assigned us to the correct
Room. There was a baby crib in the room when we checked in . The next day the staff called to see if they could go in the room to get it to which I said use, They them called three more times and emailed twice! This isn’t how I wanted to spend my first day of vacation.
They were not very generous with supplies either- I think there was one extra roll of toilet paper and one extra
garbage bag. The sofa bed was old and in pretty bad condition. We ended up purchasing an air mattress because there was no way anyone was going to get any sleep on that thing. And i was really unimpressed when we got locked a few days before we were due to check out. .The door code had got changed without notifying us. I wondered what would have happened if we had come back to the unit after office hours?
Not impressed anyway- wouldn’t recommend.

Property was beautiful as was the 3 bedroom villa we stayed in.....couldn't have asked for a better location. Home was well appointed and we did not lack for anything! Centrally located for all of our activities and with a pool and restaurant on property you really didn't need to leave if you didn't want too.
Poorly Managed

(San Jose, CA)
These are lovely Villa style units which have fallen upon disrepair. We stayed in Unit 801 which has a great floor plan and nicely furnished. The unit though is showing signs of aging which was apparent in broken blinds lading to the patio. The management company is doing a very poor job: on check in we were missing all sorts of items such as kitchen dish soap, no sponge, a single trah bag, no soap for the dishwasher, a single partial roll of toilet paper in the bathroom among other issues. The blender smelled as if something died inside of it. On the positive side, the sleep experience was good, quiet with good bedding. The fairway views are quite lovely and the grounds are well maintained. These units have great potential but are suffering as the result of management which seems a bit indifferent.
This hotel is situated at the very edge of the Waikiki beach. It was still within a good walk, or a short bus ride to the center of the chaos. I much prefer to be somewhere that is not so chaotic. The view is amazing, the room was so comfortable, and I will put it on my list as a place to return to.
Fantastic stay during Covid reopening

We had the very best experience at the Ilikai and would very likely stay here again on a future visit! It had been 11 years since we went to Oahu, and we arrived one week after the hotel reopened (closed for a year during Covid). We didn't know what to expect, but everything worked out very well.
The hotel lobby is very inviting, clean, open air. We liked the ice cream parlor and Duke's Lagoon surf shop. The elevators are limited to four people per car, which we greatly appreciated and were glad when guests mostly adhered to it.
The front desk will loan beach towels and beach chairs---just ask. You can take them over to Waikiki Beach or to Magic Island, which is next door to the marina and is a great spot to swim, especially with kids.
The bellman, valet staff, security staff, housekeeping staff, Ilikai shop keepers, and most of the front desk staff and pool attendants, were friendly and helpful. They were working hard to make everyone feel safe and welcome. It could not have been easy for them after being in quarantine lockdown for so long and then just newly reopening. It seemed that we had better service when we made the effort to be friendly and kind to the ones who were not as outgoing.
Our room was 2504, and it had the best full ocean view of any hotel room we have ever had! We ate every meal on the lanai and cooked our breakfasts and dinners in the well-supplied and super-clean kitchen. The bathroom and kitchen looked newly redone and were immaculate. Anytime we needed something like towels, it was a quick call to the front desk and they were delivered to the room. They did not provide daily housekeeping due to Covid, but we liked it that way because we could be in the room and not worry about holding up the housekeepers. Assembling the sofa bed was quick and easy, and everything we needed to do that was provided. The sofa bed was not very comfortable due to a thin mattress, but the king bed was great. There was a safe for valuables. Linens were very nice!
Valet parking was $28 per night, but it was worth it, and the valets were very efficient and friendly.
We also received a daily Honolulu Star-Advertiser newspaper delivered to our door each morning, and it was nice to read the local news and the comics/crossword/horoscope on the lanai with a cup of Hawaiian coffee.
The fitness center on the lobby level was closed, but the two pools were both open. Occasionally, the main pool was full (15 person limit), and we had to wait to use it, but we appreciated them limiting it unlike at the next door Hilton Hawaiian Village were the pools were loaded with swimmers.
We booked our vacation package for hotel and Avis rental car through Costco
Travel, and I highly recommend it.
There are six floors, I think, that are managed by the hotel (top five floors and I think floor 2). Otherwise, they are all condos that are owned/rented through a separate management group that has received many unflattering Tripadvisor reviews. I can assure you that the hotel room we had was updated and clean as you would expect a hotel room to be.
A grocery tip: The Foodland Farms on the ground floor level of the Ala Moana Center a block away from the Ilikai is a great place to stock up on prepared food items. It is a feast for the senses!

In town for a wedding, rented 3 rooms, one on the 2nd floor, one on the 8th floor and a suite on the 13th floor. All rooms need updating. The 13th floor suite was horrible, worn out couches were partially covered with an industrial cover, needed to call housekeeping for bed sheets to cover them. My room was on the 2nd floor. Grey rug needs to be professionally cleaned or replaced. Never entered the 8th floor room. Fortunately we did not spend a lot of time in the rooms. Great location.
Very likely to revisit.

If I had to give and constructive criticism it would only be that the pullout be wasn't very comfy, the internet could be faster, and that the wind made the sliding door whistle on the 25th floor. Great place.

Had to get my keiki out of our zip code and chose to stay here for our little stay-cation.
The entrance to the lobby smelled especially clean, which kept me at ease in the midst of this pandemic. Staff was very nice and helpful when needed. Elevators was limited to only one person/family at a time. The panoramic city view was beautiful from our fifteenth floor rooms. We had two rooms, right next to each other. They don’t have any adjoining rooms. They have valet parking with in and out privileges.
My kids enjoyed themselves so much, they didn’t want to leave, even right up to check out time. They enjoyed the pool the most, especially at night, since it was heated!
We enjoyed multiple walks to different restaurants nearby.
Overall, an enjoyable stay!!

Staff was friendly and accommodating. Great place to just get away and chill. Had some special request and they accommodated without problems. Rooms were simple and bed was comfortable. Plus the location is great.
I had reserved a premium, 1 bedroom, ocean view villa. When I arrived I was told I had been given an “upgrade by the manager” to a 2 bedroom villa. I asked if it was ocean view, and was informed it was a ground level room with no ocean view. I informed the front desk this was not acceptable and I would be fine with my originally booked room type. After a lot of discussion, calls to the reservation manager, I was informed that there were no 1 bedroom, ocean view, premium rooms available. They said there might be rooms the next day or two days later if I wanted to consider moving rooms after 1-2 days. The front desk staff seemed very put out when we expressed my frustration about not getting the room I had reserved. Once checking into the “upgraded” room, I found it to be disgusting. The floors were not clean. The carpets/rugs were gray and dirty, the bathrooms were dingy. The dishwasher and oven door collide with each other so you cannot fully open the dishwasher to load it. The bedding left for the pullout bed was dirty with several long hairs on the blanket. The chairs in the kitchen had stains all over the cushions. The kitchen counters were not clean. Honestly it was the dirtiest hotel room I have ever stayed in. If I had the option to pack up and leave, I would have. I spoke to the manager the next day and he apologized for the inconveniences. We were given a complementary cleaning 3 days after we arrived. The grounds were very nice, beach access was good and the pool was nice. Upon checkout the manager also gave us a slight discount, but really not enough to make any of the situation we endured worth it. I cannot recommend your property to anyone. It is the only thing that wasn’t great about our vacation. This room really it a damper on the whole experience. I hoped for better.

We have 7 and 9 year old children, the pool was perfect for them, an excellent beach right outside the resort, we rented boogie boards and cabanas from the hotel, that was convenient. The kids could swim in the waves everyday we were there. Clean and comfortable room. We did have a full kitchen unit that we had booked. No daily cleaning service because of Covid restrictions, we were there for 10 nights but they brought towels, soap, TP, Kleenx, etc as needed on request and picked up the dirty linens as well. Pool towels provided by the hotel, swapped them out daily for clean towels as well. Save room in you bag, don't pack the beach towels. I used the laundry facility a couple times, it was clean it didn't scare me to put my clothes in them :), Use the change not the credit card machine in the laundry facility. We ate at the restaurant several times, service was a little slow a couple times but it was due to them being understaffed becuase of Covid restrictions so understandable. Food was casual dining but did the trick for hungry kids that eat pancakes, chicken fingers and burgers. My husband loved the Loco Moco breakfast, a local fav! We had a wonderful experience at this hotel all around.
2nd time staying - a great place

The entire property and location is great overall. Close to the beach and not super crowded like the Whalers Village area. We stayed in 175 and the only complaint is that the room was a bit out dated compared to the other rooms/villas we and family have stayed in before. The room we stayed in two years ago was super nice. My family whom had two separate rooms, had rooms that felt very homey and up to date, while our room in 175 (dolphin building) felt like it needed some love. It was dark and had old furniture and just felt not as welcoming as the other rooms did. Overall, still a great place to stay! I will be going back on many more trips to come.
I had a horrible experience with this hotel. Very dirty. Did not look like the pictures. Not near the beach. Very seedy area. Dark and did not seem safe, especially for families. It is not worth saving the extra few dollars to stay here.
This hotel is awesome

Pre Covid, this hotel was a 10 star hotel ! When the pool closed and the restaurant as well, this hotel sadly lost its beset qualities. When the restaurant and pool reopens, this hotel will once again become the best and most loved and unique hotel in Honolulu. No hotel for the price will be able to compete with this hotel when the pool and restaurant reopen. Thank You for reading my review
Better security and less rift raft

The homeless and drug addicts and deals going on around this area made our stay fearful and unpleasant. Wouldn’t dare leave my teenage girls alone in the room. Loud music all night long!! It was hard to get any rest. The staff was great and very friendly.

Good. Need to get your dining area back. More guidance on places to eat . Parking next to hotel should e only for Business, & Handicap stalls. All other parking should be across the street. Security should be checking guests who come in late hours and been very noisy.

Locals who want to stay in town and enjoy town - great place to rest and enjoy what Ala Moana Area has to offer. We wanted to enjoy the restaurants and shops but didn't want the long drive back to the country side - so we stayed in town and enjoyed our little mini staycation.
