Return visit and were appalled with the 1 bedroom apartment we were offered (we'd booked and paid 6 months in advance). Curtains were falling apart and the sofa was old - booking for 3 people for 11 nights meant that the sofa HAD to be comfortable. We were shown 4 other appts before we settled on an apartment with a small air con tucked behind the entertainment unit with no curtailing above it to keep the sun and heat out. We were on the morning sun side of the building so the apartment was too hot to be in between 8am and 6pm. The sofa was comfortable at least but the bedroom was insufferably hot as no AC. Staff were friendly but could do nothing but sympathise. Cleaning was good. Resort fee was quoted at $20/night when booked but was $25 when we arrived. Free DVDS could not be used in the lounge room (only area even remotely cool enough for 3 adults to watch a show) as there was no DVD player!!! Very expensive wifi and beach towel fee!!!!! We will never, ever stay here again which is a shame but our holiday money is not easy to come by and we feel that we were taken advantage of. 11 nights at no special rate, booked well in advance, return customers - shabby hotel and apartment owners gouging. Plenty of other properties in the Aqua-Aston group to take advantage of the free loop bus. We spoke to other holiday makers and they too were very disappointed at how run down the building had become. We stayed in early 2017 and had a 1 bedroom unit with 2 split system AC units, DVD player in lounge room, blackout drapes and no louvers.
PHOTOS ARE MISLEADING
We brought a group down from Canada to run the Honolulu Marathon, and as we had kids coming on the trip we chose Aqua Pacific Monarch for the kitchenette. Us, as well as our guests were very disappointed when we arrived and entered the room. Although the staff are VERY friendly and helpful, the hotel is VERY dated, the rooms are small, the kitchen is very small, and the air conditioning is EXCEPTIONALLY loud and only cools beside the bed. The curtains have holes in them, and although I know it’s Honolulu, it is VERY loud due to the slatted window the air conditioner is in. I could hear everything outside and got no sleep the entire week.
Keep in mind the photos on the website are mainly of the ONE Bedroom Suites, the studios DO NOT have a patio, just a small strip you can stand on, the partial ocean views (see photo) are beyond a bunch of buildings that you can barely see, and it is not as bright and new as the photos look. They are very misleading which is unfortunate.
This hotel needs some TLC, if you are looking for like a 2 star hotel this is the place for you, but if definitely did not feel like a resort or a holiday to us, desire having to pay resort fees everyday (not sure for what?)
Love staying here
Return visit. Glad we came back. Exceptionally friendly staff all around. The room was very clean. The kitchen dishes, small appliances, coffeemaker, toaster, rice cooker, microwave, kitchen utensils were spotless. The bed/ pillows were to die for perfect, super comfy. We like this hotel as it is one block from Waikiki beach between Kuhio and Kalakaua streets (the two main roads) and is so central to everything. Once you get to the top floor of the hotel you will find the spacious amenities room. Living room sofas with TV, sm. kitchen, sink, fridge & 8 sets of tables with 4 chairs each. The spectacular roof top pool requires you to walk up another flight of stairs. There is no elevator to get to the rooftop pool. Our room on the 32nd floor had a 1 foot balcony only, (but had large sliding glass doors that opened up all the way providing a wonderful tropical breeze) so if a balcony with furniture is important to you verify that in your reservation. When you check out, if you have a late flight, the hotel will hold your bags. They will graciously give you a key allowing access to use the amenities room, shower room and pool (ask for pool towels if you need them). This is not a high end fancy hotel, but the exceptional customer service will give you that experience.
Earl- friendly shuttle driver
Weve stayed here each time we visited Waikiki. Great location, walking distance to everything.
Reception staff have always been friendly. Housekeeping this year needs improvement as they often knock at 8.30am to do our rooms. When we asked why this early, they complained they have too much rooms to do!
The biggest bonus was the free shuttle to Ala Moana, and the friendly shuttle driver, Earl, who gave us tips on where to shop, times etc. The hotel didn’t have a concierge and reception staff did not know much about what’s going on the island for tourist tips. Earl was a treasure!
Our 1st room had a big locked pantry which made it difficult to get around the room but reception quickly moved us elsewhere. It seems that some people own the condominiums and get them rented out but leave their things there. The hotel should do something about this.
The biggest downside was the noise from the union rally from another hotel, which is no fault of Aqua Pacific Monarch. But these selfish people was making so much ruckus day and night that it ruined everyone’s relaxing holiday.
Close to the beach and the grocery store. They have arranged my transportation to the airport for us. The hotel staff is amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone. I have stayed there twice and will go backp
