Guide to Golf Courses on Maui
Maui golf courses rank amongst some of the best on the planet. Many of the island’s courses have hosted major tournaments, including the PGA Tour, but really, that’s not the main reason for playing a round of golf in Maui: it’s the scenery that draws in golfers. From the cloud-scraping peak of Haleakala to stunning beaches and ocean views, Maui’s golf courses offer scenery so beautiful you have to drag your eyes away from it to tee off.
Below is a guide to golf courses on Maui. Words alone can't describe these courses though; you have to visit them to truly appreciate their beauty.
The Plantation Course
Located on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains, The Plantation Course at Kapalua Golf has breathtaking ocean views at almost every hole. Consistently ranked as the #1 golf course in Hawaii, the Plantation Course is a par 73 that challenges pros while offering plenty of fun for the average player. If you’re staying in Lahaina, the Plantation Course is only a 15-minute drive from resorts such as the Aston at Papakea and the Aston at the Whaler on Kaanapali Beach.
The Wailea Golf Club
Only a ten-minute drive from the Aston at the Maui Banyan and Aston Maui Hill in Kihei, Wailea Golf Club is home to three courses. The most challenging is the Gold Course, which includes the remains of historic lava rock walls and views of the ocean and Molokini Crater. The Emerald Course won a Top Fairways Award from Golf for Women magazine, while the Blue Course is a wonderland of coral sand bunkers, lakes and views of Mount Haleakala.
Kaanapali Golf Course
A ten-minute drive from the Aston Mahana at Kaanapali, the Kaanapali Golf Course is a fun course for beginners and more advanced players. The site includes the Royal Kaanapali and the Ka’anapali Kai for a total of 36 holes. Tee off in the late afternoon to see some incredible cloud colors as the sunsets.
The Bay Course
Since its creation, the Kapalua Golf Course has hosted over twenty professional tournaments. Kapalua is home to two courses, the Plantation Course mentioned above and the Bay Course, which boasts the only hole played over the open ocean in Maui at the stunning 17th hole. The Bay Course is only a 15-minute drive from Aston Kaanapali Shores and other Lahaina resorts.
Kahili Golf Course
Located in the West Maui Mountains, Kahili Golf Course is one of the only golf courses on the island with views of the coastlines of both east and west Maui. The 6,570 yard, par 72 course is challenging enough for experienced players while still offering an enjoyable experience for beginners. Kahili is only a 20-minute drive from Kahului and the Maui Beach Hotel.
