Is it safe to travel to the Hawaiian Islands?
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Maui and Oahu.
Tropical storm conditions are expected in Maui County today. Tropical storm conditions are expected to begin over Oahu later this morning. Showers will continue to increase over the main Hawaiian Islands today. Large swells generated by Olivia will impact the main Hawaiian Islands over the next couple of days. This will result in dangerously high and potentially damaging surf, mainly along exposed east facing shores.
Should I cancel my trip?
The Department of Emergency Management is in communication with the Hawaii Tourism Authority to ensure visitors are prepared. While visitors may not wish to cancel their plans, they should be aware of Olivia’s approach to the Hawaiian Islands. It’s incumbent on our visitors to pay attention to warnings issued by local media and government sources, as well as keeping up to date with any announcements made by the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
