Aqua Ohia Waikiki Studio Suites is situated in the heart of one of the world’s most popular vacation destinations, only 1 ½ blocks to Waikiki Beach and steps away from the International Market Place. The hotel’s super comfortable accommodations, rooms, and suites with kitchens, helpful concierge, and proximity to fine dining, shopping, and Waikiki’s thrilling nightlife will have you returning year after year
The friendliness of the staff was top notch, front desk was very welcoming, housekeeping was super lenient and nice.
The rooms were definitely a 2 star hotel. Very basic, stained walls, stained carpet, wall paper coming off. When we walked through the halls, I would see cockroaches scurrying up the walls. Bathroom was an standing shower that was poorly maintained. But I figured, who needs a nice hotel when it’s super cheap, as long as there’s a bed and AC we’ll be okay. Wrong. They’re AC unit is old and poorly maintained. Even on High, it did not cool down the room. The vent was dusty and rusted.
Like my title says, you’re definitely getting what you’re paying for. Cheap price, cheap hotel.
Other than the cleanliness, staff was on point and always willing to help us out or answer our questions.
My woeful stay at AQUA OHIA
1) Their "Going Green" incentive should be either $5 off the total bill and not just $5 discount at the Lava Restaurant. I am a very green traveler and it just irked me that because I am vegan, I was not able to really experience the green incentive the hotel was trying to provide. There was not even one Vegan option in the resto.
2) My problem the whole time was the aircon. Hawaii was very hot for me during my trip there, and when the electrician came in, he apologized because he said it's not a localized thing, the whole centralized thing is faulty. He said that they have been getting a lot of complaints and it turns out there is no improvement nor even cleaning made on the AC system, still!. I think I believe him! I took pictures of the vents of my room's AC and it was super filthy. It's a risk esp. to those with respiratory problems and I have bronchial asthma. The electrician was courteous enough and he offered me an electric fan. He said he will advise the front desk but alas, no one called me. I did not make an effort anymore because first, it was centralized; so no matter what room I switch into it's futile. Also, I already settled in and having a bad case of jetlag/cabin fever I did not want to go to the motions already. The 3 days, 2 nights I was there I felt like being broiled slowly into my death.
3) The exhaust in the bathroom, I do not know if it's working, but like the water sprinkler in the room, it's rotting. There was a lime green scale thing growing out of the fixtures. I took a picture of them too for my reviews. I feel they just renovated the lobby and pool but with the other essentials in the rooms, they have forgotten about it. Perhaps it was just a facade.
On some good points I commended on their survey 3 awesome staff members. Also laud their 7 layer filtration system fountain since I get to refill my tumbler all the time. Plus, it is mindful of travelers' water needs. This is an eco-conscious move for them.
Reasonable price for central location
(San Diego, California, USA)
Great location a few blocks from beach & central to Waikiki. Reasonable price for quality of room. Could use upgrades in bathroom and flooring in room. Pool was small but refreshing. Enjoyed cocktails and meals next door at Lava Tube.
Great affordable property. Rooms are compact but good enough for 2 people comfortably. Loved the kitchenette. Parking just too small for even a mid size car, steep awkward driveway that wasn’t to safe to come out of.
We had coffee the first day but we drank it and she never left us another bag of coffee the next day and all she did was fold the blankets and she never emptied our trash cans and she never left us any shampoo and soap so we had to go and buy some.
